Anime Fandom Hypothesis
with Chibi and Bonnie
(Yoinked from Chibi's livejournal)
O.K. So this is what we did after Bonnie's birthday was over. We made up anime hypothesis. I have no idea how the hell this happened, but we started talking about pairings.
No! Just remembered! We were watching a Naruto video and I talked about the soon to come explosion in the fandom since the boys will be sexable in the manga soon.
Anyhow, Bonnie said something about fandoms being popular for series that have no official pairings, very subtle pairings (added by me), or (which I added when we saw Inuyasha) has ended but said to keep going with the adventure. This doesn't mean it always happens of course, you could probably find exceptions, this is just us talking late at night. None of these animes belong to us, and ff.net is not ours. If we had some of this stuff, we wouldn't be poor, but we are. Yes, I just put up a disclaimer, don't know why.
And we actually have support for this.
Here are the top fic categories on ff.net. These are 10,000 and above in no particular order.
Inuyasha (The adventure has ended, so, it must continue. Fics will include something like, "The jewel shard was completed finally." For romance, you will get, "Inuyasha finally admits his feelings to Kagome." There we go.)
Card Captor Sakura (It's Clamp. Everything is subtle. Need I say more? Magical powers, blah blah blah, fandom galore.)
Kenshin (Kenshin is pretty, therefore, very yaoiable. Sano, Aoshi, Saito which I think I spelled wrong, blah blah blah. Subtle yaoi hints. Also if you like het, there's Kaoru, but not a lot of people seem to like her so they'll go for yaoi, subtle hints. I haven't seen all of this series but all I see is a nice looking red head guy...)
Gundam Wing (Duh. I don't need to say anything about this one. Just in case: 5 hot boys, teenage, in a war. No one is really together. The boys are always around each other, two of them playing music together *wink**wink* two more saving each other at random moments, and one sword fighting with a hot Oz leader who takes nice bubblebaths. Um... yes now I suddenly remember why I sank into this fandom)
Yu Yu Hakusho (No official pairings, no matter how hard I try to think of some there are none. No one is technically together. Even Kuwabara and Yukina, who is as close to official as I can think of. Not to mention that there's Hiei and Kurama, who appear in pictures together, who sing songs together in the cds, and not to mention that if we remember Kenshin... there's a nice looking red head guy...) (GreenFire adding her two cents (webmistress privilege)there is an official pairing in yyh, two of them. You probably just forgot about them because as per you're analysis no one writes about them. Yuusuke/Keiko, they get engaged. And Sensui/Itsuki, bad yaoi fangirl, you need to remember that one.)
Dragonball Z (Come on now. Adventure stories galore. Go out and find the dragon balls. Romance? Ummmm... romance?! Well for het since I don't wanna think of yaoi for this series even if someone could probably find some, a lot of the couples, like Vegeta and Bulma, they don't really show HOW they got together. Goku and Chi-Chi, maybe a little because he's the main character, but one day Bulma shows up with a baby, one day 18 comes in with a kid, so yeah... ta da)
Sailor Moon (The U.S. took away two couples, the yaoi one and the yuri one. There go fics right there. Also, you got pretty girls in a group, how many ideas can you think of with that?)
Now, surprisingly enough, series like Gravitation which is official yaoi don't have as many fics as the ones that aren't officially yaoi (I'm using yaoi as an example because I'm a yaoi fan). My theory is that people want to write about things that aren't out there. Writing Yuki and Shuichi is fine, but since it's already out there, why focus on it so much when you can write about this couple over there that isn't together officially? You can MAKE them official. Long live Heero and Duo, Hiei and Kurama, things like that.
Yes, we were sober when we thought of all this stuff.
